Présentation

INX Is Not X est un live CD basé sur Ubuntu 8.04.

Le système est en fait basé sur une installation ubuntu minimale, et dépourvue d'interface graphique. Pas d'environnement de bureau, pas de serveur graphique, juste de la ligne de commande.

Oui, mais pas sans fioritures, au contraire. INX Is Not X est en fait essentiellement constitué d'un ensemble de scripts bash plutôt impressionnants.

Objectifs

Le système ne vise pas à être utilisable tel quel pour un usage quotidien, ou presque. L'objectif de INX Is Not X est essentiellement pédagogique. C'est un outil d'apprentissage pour découvrir les dessous du fonctionnement d'un système GNU/Linux.

Contenu

INX Is Not X s'ouvre sur une série de menus en couleurs, permettant d'accéder à des outils de configuration (langue, réseau...), des applications diverses (web, mail, musique...) et même de la vidéo en framebuffer. Et bien plus encore...

INX Is Not X utilise 3 modes de fonctionnement différents :

Mode guidé : qui utilise des menus permettant d'accéder facilement aux applications
Mode tutoriel : un mode interactif plein de surprises pour apprendre à se débrouiller dans un terminal. Aucune connaissance préalable n'est requise, C'est à mon avis le mode le plus intéressant (et le plus spectaculaire, je ne savais pas que le terminal permettait autant de choses)
Mode avancé : plus de menu ni d'interactivité. Vous êtes livrés a vous même. A vous d'exploiter les connaissances acquises en mode tutoriel.

Comme son but uniquement pédagogique est pleinement assumé par l'auteur, aucun outil d'installation n'est prévu.

Exemples

Voici le menu de démarrage :

Première chose à faire, passer le clavier en français : espace 8 4 1

Ensuite, arrivé au menu principal, je vous recommande de commencer dans l'ordre, 0 puis 1 pour la présentation et assister à une petite démonstration, ensuite, libre à vous d'explorer les possibilités. Toutefois, les néophytes devraient suivre l'ordre prévu, la difficulté augmentant progressivement.
